Terroir of the Gulf of Asinara: the character of Costadoria wines

Where the earth, wind and light give life to the grapes

The terroir of Tenute Costadoria is a place of encounter and creative tension: between the breeze of the Gulf of Asinara and the humidity of the Coghinas Valley, between the abundant light of Sardinia and the complexity of rich, mineral soils, sometimes sandy, sometimes alluvial. This variety of microclimates and geological compositions is reflected in the precise and lively personality of the wines, which do not imitate or chase styles, but faithfully recount their place of origin.

Here, the land is not a backdrop, but a co-author of the wine. The soil, the light, the wind, the exposure: everything actively participates in the formation of the taste. It is in this intimate relationship between plant and landscape that the unique character of Costadoria’s Vini di Mare (Sea Wines) and Vini di Fiume (River Wines) is born.

The Mediterranean climate: sun, wind and salinity

A combination that enhances fragrance and structure

The climate is purely Mediterranean, but with surprising local influences. The sun dominates, ensuring full ripening, but is balanced by constant sea winds that cool the plants and dry out humidity. This natural ventilation protects the vines from disease, minimising the need for intervention.

The result is concentrated, healthy grapes that produce balanced wines, rich in extract but not opulent, recognisable for their freshness and finesse. Salinity is a distinctive feature, especially in the Vini di Mare wines, which are produced in vineyards just a stone’s throw from the coast.

Different soils, complementary expressions

Each plot has its own identity, each row its own nuance

The agricultural landscape of Costadoria is a map of expressive possibilities. The vineyards closest to the sea are rooted in light, sandy soils, which produce subtle, salty, direct wines. Those cultivated along the Coghinas river find deep, alluvial soils with clay and silt: here, more structured, enveloping wines with greater aromatic persistence are produced.

The combination of these soils – together with the moderate altitude, good temperature range and orientation of the rows – makes precision viticulture possible, in which every agronomic choice enhances a detail of the landscape. In the cellar, this richness translates into wines that are different but consistent, all marked by the strong identity of the place.

A terroir that cannot be replicated

The strength of uniqueness, the courage of authenticity

In a world of wine that is often standardised, the terroir of Tenute Costadoria represents an autonomous, recognisable and free voice. It does not seek approval, it does not follow trends, but is guided by nature. It is a terroir that cannot be imitated: it can only be known, explored and listened to.

And it is best described in the silence of a vineyard at sunset, or in the first sip of a Vermentino that tastes of wind and salt. Terroir is everything that cannot be explained, but can be felt in the glass and remembered forever.
